Part 6 of the California Building Standards Code — the state's energy efficiency standards. Your compliance documentation is the Certificate of Compliance, usually called a CF1R or "the Title 24," and no building department in California will issue a permit without it.

Yes, when the project requires HERS verification — the CF1R has to be registered through an approved HERS provider registry before it goes to the building department. An unregistered form gets rejected at the counter.

HERS verification is field testing and inspection by a certified third-party rater — things like duct leakage and refrigerant charge. It's required for most new residential construction and for many HVAC alterations. Your CF1R lists exactly which measures need it, so you and your rater are working from one document. The rater is separate from us and separate from your contractor; the code requires their independence.

California is divided into sixteen climate zones and the requirements differ between them. The same house that passes in one zone can fail in another, so the first thing we confirm is the zone your project is actually in — not the nearest city.

Yes — nonresidential Title 24 uses a different compliance path and different forms from residential. Send us the occupancy and square footage and we'll confirm scope before you order.
